“Back to Roots” is inspired by my own childhood of getting my hair done. I would sit for hours in African homes and shops to get my hair braided, probably why I understand the girl’s expression! From a wider stance, there is a lot to be said about black hairstyling. It reflects skill, embodies culture and showcases care for others. All of which this piece looks to embody.
